Excitement In The Air

Maybe its just because the basketball season is starting to come to an end, but I can’t wait for college football!  I’ve never been so excited for a season to start up.  This year has so much promise and yet plenty of uncertainty.

It also might have something to do with getting season tickets with a group of friends.  The tailgate party can’t start soon enough!

Thirdly, I can’t wait to see the home opener against NAU.  I love watching the Devils beat up on weaker opponents.  Plus, that gets us a week closer to the match-up against #1 Georgia.  I already feel the tension rising.

Anyone else jacked up for football?

  1. Dude – I’m totally stoked for football. I live and breathe college and pro, and I bleed maroon and gold. I order NFL Sunday Ticket and FSN AZ (since I don’t live in PHX anymore it’s the best way to watch ASU). But I gotta tell ya, I’m hopeful and also nervous about our upcoming season. DE has a good system, his players buy in, but 1) we lost some good talent to graduation this year, and 2) DE’s recruits are still young. The ’08 class is awesome on paper – to say the least, but I’m trying not to get caught up in the hype until those guys have some experience and can be consistent contributors to the returning talent – we still have a lot, especially at WR and RB. Highly ranked recruiting classes don’t really mean a lot – just ask Bill Callahan at Nebraska, well, not anymore at Nebraska.

Secondly, I have a good friend in Atlanta who also went to ASU – he’s a freak Devil. All I hear from him is how good UGA is gonna be next year. They are returning almost everyone. As was very apparent last year in our losses – Speed Kills. I hope we have the team speed next year to play with UGA, and more importantly, lay the smack down to USC.

It’s a great time to be a Sun Devil!

  2. Gentlemen, I never have a problem talking about the next football season, but just a reminder, the baseball (not to mention softball…I have coached it, so I have a soft spot) team is ranked #1 in one poll in the top five in the others. So how about a little love for the diamond folks? Murphy will be like the other baseball coaches at ASU, only missed when he is gone.

Okay, now you can go back to football.

  3. Paul, don’t get me wrong. I love all Sun Devil sports. I’m not a big fan of basketball, in general, (I was a wrestler in my youth) but I cheer on the Devils.

I can appreciate softball, I just don’t follow it very closely. As for baseball, man I am all geeked up about this year. I live in Omaha and absolutely CANNOT wait to see the Devils back here – I’ve actually been considering driving to the K-State game in May (it’s a week night and it’s a 3.5 hour drive – ouch). I feel like they are playing with some focus and determination… and maybe that stems from the CWS last year. I don’t know… but I do know that I will be buying CWS tickets as soon as they are on sale (April 19, I think).

And, I agree with you, ASU’s baseball coaching history is rather astonishing. Seems like Murphy and Brock date back to Tempe Normal… 🙂 Actually, I think we’ve only had 3 coaches – ever.

Anyway, I digress, this is a football post. But like I said… It’s a great time to be a Sun Devil – no matter the sport!

  4. I’ll agree with that. Sun Devils Athletics, in general, have really taken off and become a contender in nearly everything.

Baseball does deserve its moment in the sun, and I will make sure it gets it here on this site, but I was just excited about football because I got tickets the other day.
